http://www.freecomicbookday.com/comics.asp?ItemNo=JAN110011 (W) Ian Flynn (A) Steven Butler "The Rematch": Join the excitement with an ALL NEW "Free Comic Book Day" battle royal! Sonic goes to pay his respects for a fallen friend in the Southern Tundra and stumbles upon Ixis Naugus! How has the evil wizard managed to return? How can Sonic beat this magical master of the elements? All this plus exclusive new data files to tell you just who's who!
Pages: 32, FC FREE!First, is this a redux of SSS#15's first story? Sounds like it. And if so, how will the Sonic Wikias take it? Surely this rewrite/reillustration of established canon won't go down well for those 'die-hard' completists. Second, no credit for Ken Penders? He's the one who scripted the original story and deserves some recognition. It's not like he and Many Hands made the story appear to be lower quality than usual (as that's usual fan-reaction, though I liked it). At least place a "From a story by..." at the start. And finally, it's Steven Butler. Hurts enough not having the issues available to regular retails, but rub salt in the wound by giving a whole issue to an utterly fantastic artist and not sell it here? Argh!

I assume this is their way of getting around Penders copyrighting all those scripts.

I find the top of the cover funny.
"All New Story!"
And at the same time, makes me angry.
Edit: Original Story: Interesting, Art: I could draw it better at the age I was when it came out.
While Butler is an awesome artist, I'd prefer it with his actually style, not the jacked-up style he is required to do now.

Everyone is too busy with their "Insert-Generic-Sonic-Game-Sequel-Here" projects to care about the comics. Very few of us there are sane enough to know that the comics aren't fanon, as some people believe. I need more aspirin. . .

I'm not going to lie I dont hate the idea of takeing a hated issue and trying to redo it in a way fans will like.
Personally I never read Naugus Games I've seen scans of the "Art" and I can tell ya wasnt impressed Butler though is an actual Artist so couldnt be glader for that.

I assume this is their way of getting around Penders copyrighting all those scripts. Considering Knuckles Archives is on the way, this feels different. Ian's a bit of an egotistical ass hole ain't he? Wouldn't say it personally like that (nor should anyone if they want a job at Archie in the future), but credit should be given for the basic concept, no matter how far removed if this indeed transpires into a remake.

It's because he's rewriting somebody else's work to fit with the canon he has made by essentially tearing apart everything they've done, and he's not crediting them for even the original idea. Regardless of the fact that the idea legally belongs to Archie anyway and they can reuse it as they see fit, that's still kinda arsy.

Too Add: How much more egotistical can you get then saying "All New Story" when the story is really a remake of a story someone else did years prior?

I'm playing my Shuffle/Chaotix card again. I haven't read the story in question, but EVERYTIME this comes up, EVERYONE that has states that it is the worst thing in the batch.
ALL the reviews, ALL the readers, EVERYONE has the same beef; NOBODY liked it.
WHY is this getting so much push back? And why if it's a FREE BOOK to boot?
WE DON'T EVEN KNOW IF IT IS THE INFAMOUS SSS#15 OR IF IT IS WHAT IS BEING ADVERTISED; A NEW STORY!
BEEFCAKE!

The Outline for the comic is basically the simplified version of that issue. Thats how we know what it is.

Trying to remake something makes someone an Asshole now? I konw it's going to sound like complete Bullcrap but could you explain why. Because ever since Ian came aboard the comic, he has slowly been remodeling the comic to his image by killing off characters, to changing the tone and making the comic about the characters to the fight of the day. And now he has the balls to take credit for something he didn't write! It sounds to me like Ian is acting like the comic didn't happen before him.

Call me a moron for getting involved and correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it being Pender's comic remade just speculation? I mean, Naugus has his mind back in the series now, how do you all know it's not a continuation? And before you say an issue like that wouldn't be free, the issue with Eggman controlling Sonic with a game controller was free and that was decently important. A lot of you are jumping to conclusions and some of you are calling Ian an asshole even though there is no legitimate evidence that he IS ripping off Pender's work. My advice, calm down and think logically. I'm sorry if I offended anyone, but I just figured that you guys were getting worked up over this and I figured I'd try to diffuse the situation.
